On December 17, 2019, the Town of Devon filed an application to the Commission requesting a stay and a review and variance (R&V) of Decision 24435-D01-2019 which found Devon’s current rates to be discriminatory towards Imperial Enterprises Inc.’s (Imperial), and therefore ordered Devon to change the rates charged to Imperial going forward as well as to refund Imperial the difference since January of 2019.
On July 2, 2020, the Commission released a decision ruling on the reasonableness of the acquisition costs associated with the sale and transfer of the Fort Macleod Electric Distribution System to Fortis Alberta Inc. (Fortis) being recovered through Fortis’ rates.
The AESO held its third technical session regarding participant related costs and distribution facility operator (DFO) cost flow-through on June 25, 2020. This session related to further discuss updates and revisions to its proposal on substation fractioning (the division of costs between load and supply participants connected to the distribution system) to be submitted to the Commission. Readers may recall earlier industry updates discussing previous technical sessions. The AESO’s most recent updates may be relevant for cost flow-through purposes in the event the City’s distribution system is connected to a generator in the future.
The Commission initiated Distribution Inquiry Proceeding (ID 24116) Modules 2 and 3 are currently underway and focus on how the different technologies presented and discussed in Module One can connect to the distribution system. Readers may recall earlier industry updates discussing Module One.
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) held multiple technical sessions regarding participant-related costs for distribution facility operators (DFOs) – or the substation fraction – and DFO cost flow-through with the ultimate objective of filing a joint proposal with stakeholders to the Commission pursuant to the AESO 2018 Independent System Operator (ISO) Tariff Compliance Filing in Proceeding 25175.
On August 8, 2019, ATCO Electric Transmission (ATCO) submitted its 2018 – 2019 General Tariff compliance filing responding to the directions set out in Decisions 22742-D01-2019 and 22742-D02-2019.[1]
FortisAlberta Inc. (Fortis) has requested to withdraw its 2021 Phase II Distribution Tariff Application (DTA) which the Commission has approved as of May 14, 2020. Readers may recall previous industry updates reviewing the DTA prior to the withdrawal.
On April 15, 2020, the Alberta Electric Systems Operator (AESO) approved an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (the Commission) to defer the payment of charges under the interim 2020 Independent System Operator (ISO) tariff.[1]
