The Commission’s Decision on the CCA’s Cost Claim Review and Variance Application

In Proceeding 27666, the Alberta Utility Commission (the Commission) issues its decision regarding the review and variance application of the Consumers’ Coalition of Alberta (CCA), arguing that their 40 percent cost claim disallowance was inconsistent, punitive, and punishing. However, the CCA did not persuade the Commission that there were errors in the initial decision. Therefore, the disallowance stands.[1]

Ruling on the Town of Devon’s Request for Stay and R&V

On December 17, 2019, the Town of Devon filed an application to the Commission requesting a stay and a review and variance (R&V) of Decision 24435-D01-2019 which found Devon’s current rates to be discriminatory towards Imperial Enterprises Inc.’s (Imperial), and therefore ordered Devon to change the rates charged to Imperial going forward as well as to refund Imperial the difference since January of 2019.

Request to Review & Vary the HTR Decision

TransAlta and TransCanada have both submitted a request to review and vary (R&V) Decision 21115-D01-2017 in which the AUC found the Historical Trading Report is contrary to market efficiency, and directed the AESO to cease publishing.

AUC R&V on FORTIS Purchase of REA Assets

The AUC has issued decision 21768-D01-2017 on the Review & Variance of two decisions involving the sale of REA assets to FortisAlberta.  The R&V was initiated by the Commission after it found that the UCA had inadvertently been denied the opportunity to comment on whether the Kingman REA and VMN REA acquisition costs were prudently incurred.
