On December 4, 2018 the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) initiated the 2021 generic cost of capital and is considering whether it should return to a formula-based approach for calculating return on equity (ROE) starting the year of 2021.
On September 29, 2015 the AUC posted a process schedule for a Review and Variance (R&V) preliminary hearing on the 2013-2015 Generic Cost of Capital Decision (2191-D01-2015).

In a letter dated April 2, 2015, the Commission has indicated their intention to initiate the next generic cost of capital (GCOC) proceeding before the end of April.

On March 9, 2015 the Commission released their decision on 2013 Generic Cost of Capital (Decision 2191-D01-2015), which lays out the Commission’s findings on a generic return on equity (ROE) and a common equity structure.
