The Alberta Utilities Commission (the Commission) released Bulletin 2020-17 on May 8, 2020 announcing the creation of a panel to make recommendations on improving rate applications processes.
On April 15, 2020, the Alberta Electric Systems Operator (AESO) approved an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (the Commission) to defer the payment of charges under the interim 2020 Independent System Operator (ISO) tariff.[1]
On March 3, 2020 ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. (ATCO Gas) filed its 2020 General Rate Application (GRA) – Phase II requesting approval for its distribution rates, and terms and conditions of distribution service.[1]
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) recently released the 2020 Long-term Transmission Plan (LTP). The report describes the AESO’s projections for generation capacity and load in the province over the next 20 years. This decision included approval for the adjusted metering practice proposed by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), as well as changes to the substation fraction allocation method. These two changes are particularly significant to distributed connected generators (DCGs).

Fortis Alberta Inc. (Fortis) is requesting approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for its Phase II Distribution Tariff Application for the years of 2021 – 2022 in Proceeding 25201.[1] The main components for the application include updated terms and conditions of service, the cost allocation methodology, and the rate structure.
The Commission has initiated Proceeding 25282 to examine whether Decision 22742-D02-2019, pertaining to ATCO Electric Ltd.’s (AET) 2018 – 2019 GTA, should be confirmed, varied, or rescinded.
