On December 11, 2019, the Alberta Utilities Commission (the Commission) approved the Alberta Electric System Operator’s (AESO) request to reconcile its net deferral account shortfalls with market participants in the years of 2017 and 2018.[1]
The Alberta Utilities Commission (the Commission) initiated Proceeding 24405 to determine what rate treatment should be given to distribution utilities that acquire electric or gas distribution systems from Rural Electrification Associations (REAs), municipalities or gas co-ops under the Performance Based Regulation (PBR) 2013-2017 framework and the PBR 2018-2022 framework.[1]
On April 26, 2019, the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and interveners filed arguments regarding the AESO’s proposed changes to metering processes and distribution-connected generation (DCG) in its 2018 Tariff Application, (Proceeding 22942).
Capacity market consultations continue as the DOE, AESO and AUC work to develop and approve rules that will implement and govern the capacity market.

On November 17, 2017 the DOE hosted a second stakeholder consultation session on overarching policy decisions that will guide the capacity market design.
